10 Things About Me
As a well-known man of mystery, people often want to know what makes me tick, get at the old Worsfold workings. Here's one or two things you might not know about me:
My favourite joke.
A man phones up his local building firm and says to the man on the end of the phone "I want a skip outside my house" to which the man on the other end says, "Go Ahead, I'm not stopping you" Thank you Tommy Cooper who is also my favourite comedian.
My favourite theatre to go and see shows at now is the Hope mill theatre, Manchester. What a fantastic space. I have enjoyed everything I have seen there, but special mention to Parade and recently Pippin. My favourite theatre to perform in are both of the old style rather than the new like the hope theatre. Number one is The Georgian Theatre, Richmond, a beautiful theatre and a real experience to perform in. Built in 1788 and so it is really intimate to play, and the second would be Leeds city varieties theatre, again built a few years ago in 1865 and has had the likes of Charlie chaplin treading the boards and is now a grade 2 listed building. Both a real pleasure to be part of their history in some very small way and both theatres I hope to visit and perform in again sometime, and here is hoping the hope mill theatre also...
Learning through reading is something I really started to do even more of in the last 5 years or so. I have a couple that have really stayed with me. One is the classic "How to win friends and influence people, in the digital age". This is a great book and I really do suggest to anyone to have a read of it. Of all the other books to pick up hints and tips from, this is the original and does it so well. Another great read that i believe in is Stephen Covey "The 7 habits of highly effective people". Apart from education, I do like a good old crime thriller and for my money, nobody does them quite as well as Michael Connelly or David Baldacci.
First TV audition
First advert was for a sofa company....you know the kind of one I am talking about...where people just sit or collapse on to a sofa and all done in slow motion! My first live TV audition was actually for for snatch it TV selling remote control cars that I had only been shown 2 minutes before and the batteries were dead. Amazingly, I sold all of them and was offered my first TV contract.Still waiting to hear back from the sofa company though!
This is a hard one as I have so many musicals that I love but if pushed I would have to say Wicked. First reason is probably that it was the first show I ever saw on Broadway and the second is the music is just so powerful and lets face it, Idina Menzel can sell a song can't she.
Best place that I have ever visited
The place that I found most amazing was Tanzania. This country with it's amazing landscape and friendly people really opened my eyes to how lucky we are and how little some people have and yet can still smile. Inspirational in every sense of the word!
Do you follow any sport?
I am an avid football fan and support west ham which is an oxymoron if ever I heard one and I have only ever seen West Ham play away and every time they have lost. Saying that I do like to watch any big sporting event. I love the rugby six nations and have seen England at Twickenham a couple of times. What a venue! I used to play a little hockey and did a couple of tours in Belgium playing and so was delighted to get tickets to go and watch the Hockey final at London 2012. Ok team GB were not in it but great event anyway, and so pleased to be able to say I was there.
Best personnal Experience
I hope I have not had the best one yet but what I have experienced has been amazing.... A hot air balloon ride over the Australian outback, diving on the Great Barrier Reef and climbing to base camp two of mount Kilimanjaro and then proceeding 800 metres down a Tanzanite mine. All of these were amazing for lots of reasons but two that do beat them all was being at the birth of my two beautiful Children in Halifax. OK, maybe not the best location in the world but without doubt my best ever experience. No offence Halifax.
I have a couple 1 "If you do what you have always done, you'll get what you've always got! 2) When you talk, you are only repeating what you know; but when you listen, you learn something new. Dalai Lama
My favourite food is cheese and I am one of the founder members of the Huddersfield cheese society. If it sounds posh, it isn't, if this sounds sad...I would agree, but you have to remember what goes well with cheese? Exactly, wine, so meetings turn alright by the end.
